Who I Am
I’m a psychotherapist with special interest and skill in supporting clients in navigating life transitions, forging better relationships, managing stress and finding balance and peace in day-to-day life.
How I Can Help
When clients first come to me, they’re often feeling stuck, stressed, overwhelmed or alone. Even in their closest relationships, they may feel disconnected and conflicted. Many are feeling directionless or inadequate, struggling with indecision and self-doubt. Most want a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. I help clients address these issues, gain clarity and confidence, feel better and find a path forward.
In our work together, you’ll learn how to feel your feelings without having them take over, adopt different ways of thinking, feel more comfortable in your own skin, and, ultimately, be able to have a more connected and satisfying life.
My Approach
I believe we all have a need to be heard and understood without judgment. You know yourself better than anyone else does. Therefore, I won’t serve as an authority with all the answers, but rather an as ally and guide to help you examine the hard stuff, dig through your emotions, and find direction and peace.
During sessions together, you’ll get in touch with different parts of yourself: the things you feel good about but sometimes downplay or forget and the messy parts that you may hide from others and from yourself. At times, we’ll dig into your past relationships and experiences because they often continue to shape who you are and what you do in the present.
We’ll aim to create lasting change, but therapy doesn’t have to be somber. I won’t be detached or aloof. I genuinely care about my clients and my style is warm, open, and authentic. I’ll roll up my sleeves and get in there with you. And, in the most compassionate way, I’m going to challenge your thinking at times so you start feeling better. Through it all, I’ll meet you where you are and support you in growing toward where you want to be.
My Background & Training
I believe that a therapist should never stop learning. I care deeply about the work I do and continually seek out opportunities for in-depth professional development. Among other post-graduate programs, I’ve completed the Washington School of Psychiatry’s two-year Clinical Program on Psychotherapy and am currently participating in the Group Psychotherapy Training Program at the National Group Psychotherapy Institute.
I once (long ago but not so far away) was a high school history teacher — and continue to have great respect for those who teach. My work in both my careers, in the classroom and in counseling, has deepened my conviction that meaningful one-on-one connection has the power to generate lasting change.
